In April 2022, I was named for the Prestigious Fulbright Specialist Roster for a four-year term.
International Symposium and Postgraduate Praxis-Seminar on:
Sustainable Urban Development and Real Estate Economics
Through Fulbright Specialist Program (FSP) I was able to expand my global engagement with interdisciplinary scholars, industry sector, and instructors at the Technische Universität Berlin, to help understand the implementation and measures of the the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development goals (https://sdgs.un.org/goals). The 17 Sustainable Development Goals demonstrate the scale and ambition of this new universal Agenda, which balance the three pillars of sustainable development: economic, social, and environmental. I am particularly interested in leading several engagement activities that focus on Goal 11 “Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable” and Goal 13 “Climate Action.” These goals were adopted to ensure prosperity for all, protect the planet, and end poverty. They were driven by several facts that threatens the future of the planet including an estimated 50 percent of humanity, some 3.5 billion people, who lives in cities today and are projected to reach 60 percent of the entire population by 2030 and will reside in urban areas. The world’s cities occupy just 3 percent of the Earth’s land but are responsible for 60-80 per cent of energy consumption and 75 per cent of carbon emissions, with 95 percent of the urban growth in these cities is anticipated to be in the developing world which will put more burden on infrastructure, living conditions, and public health.
FSP is also be extremely beneficial to my home institution. By joining FSP, my main goal is to build bridges for long-term collaboration and exchange with European counterparts at my host country, where I addressed the global housing affordability and sustainability crises and ESG Reporting. I focused on creating a platform for dialogue between my host academic institution and practitioners from sustainability, resilience, policy, design, and real estate and business sectors, will address local policies and land development practices that helped create integrated affordable housing for marginalized communities including the immigrants and refugees.
